Spark Resistant Tools
Introduction to Non- Sparking Safety Tools
At Buck & Hickman we take your safety seriously and when it comes to using tools in potentially explosive environments we simply don’t offer 2nd best.
EGA Master Non-Sparking Safety Tools are recommended for use in all potentially explosive environments, all areas where combustible or easily ignitable vapours, liquids and dusts are present and anywhere that a potential fire and explosion risk from sparks is possible.
Incorporating the knowledge and experience gained from the manufacture of conventional hand tools makes EGA Master Non-Sparking Safety Tools the most ergonomic and highest performing tools available. All EGA Master Non-Sparking Safety Tools are forged after casting to produce the highest quality tools available on the market. By utilising 2-component handles and advanced ergonomic designs means they will not only help you to complete your tasks more quickly and easily but this will be done so with greater comfort.
EGA Master Non-Sparking Safety Tools are guaranteed to only ever be manufactured from the very highest quality Non-Sparking Alloys, to ensure the highest possible levels of operator safety and tool life. In fact, EGA Master Non-Sparking Safety Tools are certified by the prestigious German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, which is European Union approved to certify in accordance with 94/9/EG Directive (ATEX).
EGA Master Non-Sparking Safety Tools are available in two certified Non-Sparking Alloys, Copper-Beryllium and Aluminium-Bronze, meaning that unlike many other brands you are able to benefit from selecting the most appropriate and safest tool to match your specific requirements. Each Non-Sparking Alloy has its own unique set of features helping to make each one more suitable for different applications.
If you are working in an ATEX zone with the IIC gas Acetylene present, then no tools with a copper composition higher than 65% should be used. This is because copper reacts with acetylene creating highly explosive acetylides making it unsafe. As both Copper-Beryllium & Aluminium-Bronze both have copper compositions higher than 65%, they should not be used in environments with Acetylene present.
If this is the case then please contact us as selected EGA Master Non-Sparking Safety Tools are also available in a special alloy, ACETILEX, which has been developed specifically to be used 100% safely in Acetylene environments. It is very important to remember that when using EGA Master Non-Sparking Safety Tools, even the highest quality Non-Sparking Alloys used cannot achieve the very high levels of hardness and tensile strength that conventional Steel Alloys can achieve.
With this in mind, extra care should always be taken to avoid over stressing & over heating the tools being used. Failure to observe this will result in extra wear and damage which could lead to the premature and unexpected breakage of the tool. Not only should the cost of the broken tool be considered, but it is very important to remember that far too often unexpected tool breakage results in operator injury.
If you operate in the following typical Application Fields, then contact us to discuss your Non-Sparking Safety Tool requirements;
Feature
Hardness
Tensile Strength
Magnesium
Durability
Price
Composition
Explosion Groups
Copper-Beryllium
283-365 Brinell
1250N/mm2
The non-ferrous composition makes this material safer in non-magnetic applications
A much higher hardness & tensile strength mean this material can withstand more use and higher loads
Higher price due to the special raw material in the alloy
Be – 1.8-2% Ni+Co – 0.2-1.2% Other - <0.5% Rest – Cu
Safe for use in all explosion groups (I, IIA, IIB, IIC*), whilst respecting the maximum surface temperature allowed
Aluminium-Bronze
229-291 Brinell
800N/mm2
The minimum non-ferrous composition means that this material is not 100% non- magnetic so makes it only safe for use in applications where non-magnetic properties are not critical
Having a lower hardness & tensile strength means this material is less durable and can only withstand lower loads
Lower price due to more commonly available raw material
Al – 10-20%
Ni – 4-6% Fe+Mn - <5.8% Other - <0.5% Rest – Cu
Safe for use in explosion groups I, IIA & IIB only, whilst respecting the maximum surface temperature allowed
