Industry: Chemical
Problem
A customer in the chemical industry required help to improve the performance of its chains in four identical production lines – located in a critical area of the plant, where the production lines feed the packing area. Here, the customer used stainless steel chains consisting of two or three sections, connected with various hooks – the average life of the chains was 1.5 - 2 months. The chains had to be prepared on-site using 5 meter length rolls, which was time-consuming for the customer and also required three open codes: one for whole rolls, one for each section of the chain and one for the hooks.
Solution
Brammer – working in collaboration with Renold – proposed introducing the Synergy Network to a section of the chain, which would enable the customer to use pre-assembled chains rather than preparing the chains on-site. The Synergy chain is stainless steel and provides greater mechanical stability as a result of being one section instead of three.
Result
The introduction of the Synergy chain not only enabled a reduction of open codes managed by the customer, but also decreased the amount of time spent pre-assembling the chains by 20 hours and increased the product life of the chains to 12 months. All of this amounted to a total cost saving of €14,750.
